What looked like another sunny day – turned on us very quickly. We took our time as we woke up in the lovely Paradise Alaska RV PARK, making a last attempt to bring our broken refrigerator back to life. The Alaska highway took its toll, and our RV refrigerator is now completely dead!

Based on AllTrail recommendation – we turned to The Butte trail in Palmer – practically – just around our camp. in reality, it was a 25 min drive – as we had to circle the airport, cross the roaring Matanuska River – and pay for parking at the trailhead. We were surprised at the parking lot’s busy, mostly with local cars. The views were amazing when we got up to the top of the Butte, with 505 stairs and a total of 808 feet elevation. This is a short and steep 3 miles roundtrip trail. At what point should we not get surprised to see a new glacier in Alaska? We were surprised again with the great views of an (for us) unexpected Kink Glacier and the endless fertile fields of Palmer. From the top – we could see a front of gray/black clouds approaching- and as we were halfway down, the rain started to drop and never stopped for two days. We got into our car semy-dry and headed to Anchorage with a mission to find a solution to our refrigerator by finding an actively cooled container for the car. Staying in Anchorage was never in our plan, but we did take our time to do shopping and fuel at less than $5.00 a gallon for the first time in the last year.

The way to Seward looked charming and amazing- but the views were limited by the low cloud – and we had used a lot of imagination.
