Today, we woke up at 0600 a.m. to a drained battery sirene from the smoke detector, after the water heater had been working all night to keep the pipes from freezing.
At 0615 a.m., I was already out connecting the car and recharging. That was a real blessing—as the wind stopped, the snow started falling on our campground. It was an excellent sight of the lake, watching the snowflakes and zipping the morning coffee, when some hawk (or other similar bird) dived just in front of me into the water and came out with a fish flying a few feet above my head.
After checking out from the camp, we continued exploring the falls of the North Umpqua River. Waston and Toketee Falls are well worth the short hikes, and the drive along the Umpqua River is impressive. It is one of Oregon’s best vista roads. It was sad to see the remains of the massive fire in the western part of the road
just before connecting to HWY5 and heading to the Portland area. Galit and Shmuel were, as usual, incredible hosts for Yammy dinner and NBA final game 5! Go, Warrior. The RV Site is very well maintained, and we are hooked up for the first time on this trip, though the spaces of the more rustic campgrounds are not comparable.
