Key Highlights: | Edith Cavell Meadow Trail |
This was not our first time in Edith Cavell Glacier. The last time was in 2009, together with our three little kids. Today was our opportunity to have the adult version of this fantastic mountain. We hiked the Edith Cavell Meadows trail that is gaining almost 2000 feet elevation in short distance, and offering some fantastic views of the two glaciers there: the Edith Cavell lower glacier and the famous Angle Glacier that is hanging above it. This was one of the top hikes of our trip, with inspiring late spring fields of flower blooming, Low Alpine terrain – that offered open and unobscured views of the mountain and valleys around it, including the turquoise-colored water of Cavlle Lake. It was so good that even the mosquitos that showed up every time we stopped walking – did not bother us too much.
Our shock of the day came up as we tried to look at Cavell Lake from the tail-head of Tonquin Valley: The thunders we heard from the distance became closer, and rain started to pour(!) And did not stop until the morning later. Yesterday – we struggled with 90F Fahrenheit; Today – heavy hail, rain, flashes of lightning, thunderstorms, and 60ish Fahrenheit. This is a hard place with extreme weather. Incerdinle.
