Five Finger Rapids.

Parks Canada continued to outperform with their guided tours. After the fantastic Dreger No.4 tour yesterday, we joined the 90 min walking tour of Dawson City this morning. Not only does this guided tour get you inside some of these fantastic buildings that were built in a rush when 40,000 people rushed into Dawson City and abounded as quickly- the guide, which is during the year a teacher in the local school, was very resourceful about the local history and present, and a great storyteller. The tour taught us a lot about the Klondike gold rush, how #fakenews of 100 years ago worked, and how hard the gold rushers’ adventure was. We loved Dawson City and were sad to leave it.
Our sorrow went deeper the longer we went back on the Alaska HWY towards Carmacks as the road was in terrible condition, and for many miles -we drove on a dusty gravel road. Everything in the RV fell apart: the sink drain pipe, the slide-in decoration, and about 2″ of dust were everywhere after the travel.

We stopped and hiked the very short trail at the famous five-finger rapids – a place of challenge for the steamboats and other Yukon River passers. The 5 Finger rapids have four islands dividing the roaring river into 5. Only one of the fingers is passable (the others are either too stormy or too shallow to pass).
Carmacksv lodge offered a decent RV park with a full hookup on the river. The quiet hours were not strictly enforced, and the place was a bit noisier than expected
