For a few hours – we thought the sun would come out today. The first 2 hours of the drive to Dease Lake (our original plan for tonight) were awesome. Yet the closer we got to Gnat Pass, the cloudier and rainier the weather became. We asked the locals, and they testified this was the strangest spring and summer they had had in ages- it was more wet and cold than years before. Finally, as we climbed to Gnat pass, the temperature started to drop to 33F (0.5 Celsius)- and we found ourselves driving through some meaningful snow showers (for the 2nd time on this trip). Dease Lake was underwhelming in that weather, and we (smartly) decided to try our luck and drive further north to camp at Boya Lake Provincial Park. The road yielded three bear sightings (2 cubs on a tree and one more in a different location) and improved views of the surrounding. Boya park, on its crystal clear water, is a real treat. We found campsite number 3 open, just on the water available – and with 180 views of the lake. After dinner (home-cooked soup + traditional steak and lamb chops)- we started the local hike to the beaver’s dam (3km) at 0900pm, still with full daylight.
